Latest from Acid Coco is a dembow capturing the devastation of a relationship just ended

After extolling the virtues of new love on “Todo Me Lleva A Ti”, and the need to be strong in relationships, a sentiment felt on both “Hoy Como Siempre” and “Soy La Fuerza”, the latest single from Acid Coco, “Mundo de Mentira”, is the first to show vulnerability, describing the “World of Lies” that her life has become now that her lover has gone.

Set to a dembow beat, Andrea’s vocals reveals the pain of a relationship just ended, with a feeling of numbness taking over. “Because without you my love / I can´t stay here” (“Por que sin ti amor / No puedo yo quedarme aquí”) she sings on the chorus, her voice switching from its usual front-footed intent to a higher-pitched tone filled with resignation.

Throughout, an insistent beat acts like a hammer, never allowing the emotions to let up, while a Roland Juno 106 plays the wiry main melody, its disjointed rhythm a proxy for
confusion and distress. The track shows how Acid Coco continue to mine the sounds of the Colombian Caribbean even when the sun has stopped shining.
